David Stevenson
Country Director and Representative of the World Food Programme
David Stevenson is the incoming Country Director and Representative of the World Food Programme in the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Previously, he was Executive Director at the African Development Bank where he represented Canada, China, Korea, Turkey and Kuwait. Mr. Stevenson is dedicated to combatting food insecurity and supporting country led economic and social progress, which he has witnessed and contributed to over a 30-year career in humanitarian diplomacy and development including leadership positions in government, private sector and multilateral agencies. He has a broad range of global experience from directing complex operations on the frontlines of conflict and natural disasters, to designing and leading innovative global initiatives, to negotiating development policy approvals, funding decisions, humanitarian access and private/public partnership deals. He has served as accredited UN World Food Program Representative in Rwanda and Zambia, as senior Director at WFP headquarters leading a transformational change from food aid to food assistance that continues to drive the world’s largest humanitarian agency, as Director General at CIDA, and as Managing Director at the Howard G. Buffett Foundation. Mr. Stevenson graduated with honors in Political Science at University of Calgary and has a Master’s degree from Queens University.
